"Letters To New Orleans" Mixtape Review by @TheRadioShaq

Check out our review of MidcityAB's highly anticipated mixtape by Sliktron affiliate & The Rouge Collection writer Shaq Cosse (@TheRadioShaq).

After pushing back the release date for Letter To New Orleans a few times, New Orleans' own, Mid City AB finally Blessed his listeners with the lyrical postal delivery it was. Opening up the project with "Wasting Gas" produced by M - 80, AB instantly snatches the attention of the listener. Letter To New Orleans is laced with features from another New Orleans Giant MC, Chad Charles, and new comer, Tee Picasso, amongst other heavy weight MC's. Sounds powered by the likes of OG Juan, M - 80, and more. AB took his time, carefully, subtly, and strategically used Letter To New Orleans to claim his throne as the Don of New Orleans Underground Rap.

First Listen: On the first listen of Letter To New Orleans I found myself indulged in the stories AB was telling. I was caught up in the lyrics, and how he carefully tied simultaneous tracks together. I'm never too caught up on content during the first listen, I'm usually combing thru for the skips, and misses, but Letter To New Orleans doesn't give you that option. You will find yourself painting vivid mental pictures as if you were there with AB capturing the very moment he's rapping about. Ironically enough, Mid City AB doubles as a Videographer, and a damn good one at that, so it's natural for him to paint pictures in the minds of the people who seek his work.

Second Listen: On my second listen, at this point I was just being greedy, and binging on a project that I waited a while for, I found myself relishing in how raw, and gritty the production of the overall project was. Not sure if it was intentional, but Letter To New Orleans has a very distorted sound, making for so much authenticity, and this seems to be the overall theme, down to the cover art.

Potential Impact: I can see this project being the launch of a lot of open doors for Mid City AB, dropping just in time for the NOLA Hip Hop Awards in October. This project should definitely earn AB Lyricist of The Year, and depending on what or who drops post Letter To New Orleans, it can possibly win Mixtape of The Year as well.

Favorite Song: Murder Man Dance, no words for this track! Ahead of it's time would be the best description.

It's great to see an artist with so much talent, channel it into one piece of art, and cover every corner of his potential. No stone left unturned with Letter To New Orleans, masterpiece. Things can only go up from here with Mid City AB.
