AK - Slim Reaper [Mixtape]

When you're #ThePlug like I am, you get a whole bunch of new music in your inbox on a daily basis. I had the pleasure of receiving a freestyle in my twitter mentions from New Orleans Westside Rapper, AK a few days ago and it prompted me to seek after more of his music. Well as I watched the Saints get busy on The Panthers, I saw AK promoting his new mixtape, Slim Reaper, and asked him to send it to me earlier. I bumped the entire mixtape, and i'll tell you how I felt about it after the jump.

BARS!! The homie AK is definitely bringing real bars back, metaphors, word flips, gun lines, street lyrics. I grew up on Wayne's music, and that's what AK reminds me of. Quality street music, with intellectual delivery, and lyrics. The Slim Reaper mixtape is filled up with industry beats, all in which AK bodied, he didn't get hung up on any of the beats, he boogied on "Grindin" the craziest, ironically enough that's Wayne's beat.

Strength Of The Tape: The tape flows from intro, to outro, NO SKIP ZONE! NO SKIP ZONE! (okay that was kind of lame) But really though, I bumped the tape twice, start to finish, and didn't skip a track. And I usually get mad busy with the skips. With this tape I just let it run.

Potential Of The Tape: I had only heard of AK once before he sent me that initial track, but now I think he's one of the hardest spittas in the city. If we're talking bar for bar, he's Top 10 of the rappers that I know of. I would like to hear the homie on a record with Daniel Heartless, I think he and XO Boogie would have great chemistry on records, a song produced by OG Juan would be craziness, and a video from Quincy Scott always rounds things off! This tape can give AK the notoriety he deserves, I think he barred his way into every relevant New Orleans Rap Convo, dude is NICE!!! Check out the tape below.
