Murda Mook, King of Battle Rap, King of BET Cypher

Murda Mook killed the 2014 Bet Hip Hop Awards Cypher, and put on for Battle Rap, Smack White, and The URL.
Mook with that durag? Cape hanging? Nah. This Mook is a different animal, he’s not even the same guy that ended Iron Solomon’s career. This Murda Mook is the King of Battle Rap, and after a victory against Loaded Lux on Total Slaughter, and the body bag that was the BET Cypher, Murda Mook is now the King of Battle Rap on Television, which Smack White of The URL has successfully bought to BET. I vividly remember following Hurricane Katrina, going back to school in New Orleans meant sitting around trying to remember what to type in to watch Murda Mook battles in the Computer Lab. Fast forward years later, and he’s getting busy on the BET Hip Hop Awards stage.

Only true battle rap fans know the significance of Mook rapping on both the beat, and acapella. Rapping on the beat was important because we all know the old stigma that “battle rappers are incapable of making quality music”. Well I sure would purchase, and download Murda Mook’s music, even if we were basing it solely off of his performance at the awards, and that’s not even taking into consideration his resume prior to that showing. His acapella performance was important, and monumental because it was a chance to show the masses just what battle rap is all about. It’s about raw emotion, impulses, spontaneity, freestyle, grit, passion, it’s crowd altering, battle rap is art.

Think about Aye Verb’s “aay Big Gerald” against Hitman, or Clips not letting X Factor get his rocks off, you just never know what’s going to happen when the two opponents face off.
Mook rapping past his time was one of those moments, and I think it will change the way the world views battle rap.

Smack White is a genius for creating URL years ago, and sticking with the culture, never switching up, and remaining loyal to the fans. For years I have felt his come up in those long messages before the battles..HA. But those long messages show how far he's taken the culture! Much Love.

Smddddddaaacck!
