Black Lives Matter

Late last night, CNN reported that Ferguson Police Officer, Darren Wilson, would not be indicted in the murder of 18 Year Old college student, Mike Brown. It's now time to make sure that this corrupted country is never the same again. Shift The Culture. Black Lives Matter!

I am Mike Brown. I'm a young, black, male college student, who you could have found at the local convenient store buying cigarillos when I was 18. Fully laced with a baseball cap, a T-Shirt, and jeans, bobbing to Lil Wayne. How many times have I been approached by the police? I'm losing count. Luckily I didn't lose my life any of those times, knowing me, and my slick mouth. But I could have, I could have been a hash tag, hell, I still can, Thank God that I'm covered by his Grace. Mike Brown didn't dodge that unnecessary evil though, and the depression, and sadness lingers following his killer walking freely. Once again, the "Justice System" slaps the face of the parents of another young black man, with a world of promise, and a long life ahead of him. I'm 22, and in 4 years since I was 18, I've experienced so much, and grew so much as a person. We all make mistakes at that age, regardless of your race, or gender, but we grow from it hopefully. Mike Brown's parents won't be allowed to see that growth, and for that my highest level of grief, and condolences go out. But it's time to change that.

No freedom in a land that OUR ancestors built, that they put their blood, sweat, and tears into. There's no equality even in 2014, there's no justice, we can try for peace, but those people in Ferguson are not trying to hear about peace right now. Hopefully one day they do though. But for now, there's no freedom, equality, justice, or peace, and no signs of any of those important elements in a country supposedly built on them. But what is this country really built on? Lies, oppression, slavery (mental, physical, and spiritual), injustice, deceit, inequality, white privilege, I could go on for hours. Here my brothers, and I are busting our asses in college, and thinking if we better ourselves individually, maybe we can dodge the pen, or a bullet, but shit now black college students are getting killed. Where do you find comfort in that? Now I'm not going to say that I'm going to give up, and say that all the hard work is for not, but I would be lying if I said that a situation like Darren Wilson not being indicted isn't discouraging.

It's time for us a generation to rise up, and put plans in place. Millineals Of Color in particular. We must first reach out to the areas that we are able to impact, including: the communities we were born, and raised in, the black population on our college campuses, the other black people at our jobs, touch who you can, so that they can touch who they can, and create a movement. The Civil Rights Movement wasn't built over night, they started with an issue at a time, issues turned to impacting entire communities, communities turned to cities, cities turned to states, states turned to regions, and eventually they had most of the country on board. Change is not impossible, it's simply a matter of doing, it's time to do. I don't give a damn who thinks that things in this country are fine, I don't feel safe, I don't feel equal, and I know that my black life matters, but dammit I want the world to know. I want Darren Wilson, and every other Brother Killer to know that when you kill one of ours, you are killing a doctor, or a lawyer, or a writer, or a musician, or any other asset to this country, and we wont stand for it any longer.

Two of my brothers lent me some of their thoughts on this situation.

"This is a tragedy. A black man pays taxes just as a white man does. A black man goes to school and tries to make a living just as a white man does. And to live in a country, that his ancestors built, and not to be valued as the next man is sick. As a black man, I am already conditioned to understand that the odds are against me to live. All because my skin is a little darker than the next man."

"Tonight shows that this wasn't about justice being shown, it's about keeping blacks in place and showing America how powerful the government will remain. That's two major cases in the last 2 years shown on CNN to put us in place, and show that the government doesn't value the black male in America."
