Letter To The Unpopular 2

One of my favorite pieces from 2014 was Letter To The Unpopular, I loved it so much that I decided to do a part 2.

Do people still dream? Or is that played out? Is dreaming no longer part of the social norm? Now, everything is popularized and if you don't participate in this popularized ideology, you're instantaneously deemed socially awkward, or "a lame," as the cool kids would say. Well, this is for all the people who've grown a pair for 2015, and said to themselves, “from now on, I'm going to dream, and as unpopular and as uncommon as it may be, dammit, I'm going to live my life as my own.”

Dear Person With Unpopular Sense of Self Awareness,

Welcome to Letter to the Unpopular 2!

Big dreamers, hopeless romantics, and ambitious millennials, are just a few of the groups ostracized in today's society. They all possess the unpopular quality of trying too hard and wanting too much. Bump that. When's the last time you dreamt some shit and didn't care who thought it was weird? When you were a kid? When it was still acceptable to be an individual and have aspirations of your own, that weren't tainted by society's blueprinted mumbo jumbo? Nowadays, even kids can't dream. Kids today have more access to the world than any other previous generation. Through avenues like Twitter and Instagram, kids learn early what society’s expectations of them are.  For example, if you're a young black dude, rap or play a sport, have lots of bling, and Jordans, make sure you stunt on your girl, and call her a bitch every now and then to let her know you don't care. Young black girl, Love.....And....Hip Hop, enough said. Young white girl, be a Kardashian. What about those of us who escape the grips of marginalization? Why are we ostracized and frowned upon? Because we shift the paradigms; America doesn't like its paradigms shifted. Which is why a year like 2014 was perfect for America, a country built on self-hate, and persecution based on personal beliefs. A year with everyone living by the same basic standards, and when I say basic, I mean basic. Nah, like really basic. Okay, off that basic shit.

2015 is when each and every person should take responsibility for their own happiness, no matter how unpopular your means for achieving that happiness may be. Contrary to the belief of new age media, there’s no guide to life. Aspire to do great things, aspire to be different, and above all, aspire for something. There are too many people living in the world who doesn’t know that God answers prayers and loves to reward his children with the desires of their hearts. We limit ourselves internally, spiritually, outwardly, in both our careers and in everyday life. No belief. And with no belief comes conformity. Conforming to this world? I'm not interested any longer. I’m interested in creating my own path and most importantly, allowing God to order my steps.

I challenge everyone reading this to break the mold of marginalization, do the unpopular, take on the unthinkable. Young rappers, keep spitting that shit, who cares if no one hears you right now? How would you know how great it is to have fans, if you didn’t start from having minimal? Students, especially people who love school, are in the minority, I’m sure of it. There’s a special award for those kinds of people; it’s called an extra cup of applesauce at the crazy house. Stick with it; education is key and pretty much a necessity in today’s job market. No matter what you do, doing it at a high level while no one is watching is a sign of great character, great passion, and usually leads to longevity in that particular field. Love what you do, especially when you aren’t popular for it yet. It’s better to milk the cow when the sun is up, than to not milk the cow at all. Okay, that made no sense; disregard the weird cow reference. Continue to dream and strive for excellence in all that you do. Recognize that your ambitions and the ambitions of society won't always align. It's cool to be unpopular.

God Bless, TheRadioShaq
