So a couple days ago, Zack and I were just chilling, talking about rap like we tend to do from time to time, and he decided to rap the lyrics to Shawty Lo's "Dey Know" record.
Of course this sparked an interested conversation. How crazy is it to hear those BOMB rap songs that you haven't heard in awhile? How turnt up do you get every time 50 Cent's "In Da Club" comes on? Very turnt is the answer, you get very turnt.
Whenever a classic Kanye song comes on it makes you want to kill off all the weak shit that everyone else drops right? You feel some sort of obligation to defend the honor of Kanye's classics! "Last Call" which may be the greatest Outro of all time...OF ALL TIME! But how often do you hear "Last Call"? NEVER! Unless you're Zack, and I of course, then you hear "Last Call" weekly, because it's that important.
There's so many timeless rap songs out there, of course I would never be able to name them all in one post, there's the classic Jay Z songs that you hear and instantly remember why he's been running the rap game for so long. There's the classic Weezy records that are my personal favorite, as everyone knows. There's the guys with the one hit wonders that make you remember how quickly one can fall off. But one genre that's often forgotten about is the classic rap songs, with the R&B feature. Rap/Sung Collaborations.
Kelly Rowland, Beyonce, Trey Songz, Drake, Ashanti, Chris Brown, Usher, Bobby Valentino, Keri Hilson, Rihanna, August Alsina, Ryan Leslie just to name a few who've assisted rap songs, and held their own, and created timeless records. I'm personally a huge fan of R&B assisted rap records, especially the Kelly Rowland joints (heart eyes to brown skin Kelly Rowland, that's bae).
So many Rap/Sung smashes for Kelly Rowland, she's the Queen of those collabos in my opinion. "Motivation", and "ICE" with Tunechi, "Dilemma" with Nelly, "Soldier" back in her Destiny's Child days with Tip, and Wayne. The girl has HITS! But we all know about her former group member, and friend Beyonce's successful rap/sung collaborations with her husband Jigga, they have some great records that you don't hear often, but when they come on you are reminded of their music royalty.
My favorite rap song to hear after a long listening hiatus is "We Taking Over" the smash, mega rap collaboration from DJ Khaled, Akon, T.I., Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Birdman, and Lil Wayne. I remember hearing this joint for the first time and being a crazy Wayne Head I couldn't stop listening, after time of course it got played out, but now every time I hear it I lose my mind, Wayne's verse is still CRAZY, and the record in whole is a classic rap song. Major Collaboration there.
