House Of The Young Recap: The Review

A night full of local talent, on a platform created by Film Maker/Event Planner, Edward Buckles, House Of The Young, an important night for The City of New Orleans.

The homie E Buckles picked some heavy hitters for this HOTY Card including Daniel Heartless, LG, and arguably the biggest name on the card, Chase N Cashe. Amongst those names were artist such as John Deaux, Deep N Space (who we couldn't get the audio for, but they did their thing as well), and the duo Mulherin. Each artist bought something different to the table, and killed the stage in their own way. I'll break it down for you now.

Mulherin - (R&B/Electronic Duo, sings, and produces)

When you have artistry this unique, and so different, sometimes it may be hard to keep a certain crowd's attention. Mulherin doesn't have this problem. Their music speaks for itself. Soulful, authentic, original, full of charisma, and the right kind of energy. Mulherin is well on their way to shifting the game. HOTY was the perfect stage for Mulherin to show this shift. To show that in front of a crowd such as the HOTY crowd that they are here to be heard.

The strength of their performance was clearly the chemistry between artist. Stage presence is a must to make it in the game, and both artist displayed that at the highest level.

I'm def in the business to hear more of Mulherin's music. They're well on their way.

John Deaux (Rapper, lyrical style, flow is nuts)

When an artist without a major buzzing song, still gets the crowd to remain engaged, and hear what he has to say, you know he has the IT factor, John Deaux has the IT factor. Even though he dropped a song recently dissing my NONO article, HA! But on the real, stage presence once again was a huge factor here, keep the crowd interested, and John Deaux did just that. His name matches his persona, maybe you don't know who he is just yet, but just wait awhile, that was the feeling when he was performing.

The strength of his performance was relatabilty. The crowd being able to resonate with what he was saying, always a HUGE plus.

LG (Rapper, lyrical, content conscious)

Honestly LG is one of the top 5 best rappers in The City, his presence at HOTY should be appreciated while we still have him here in The City, and while he's not out traveling with the music. His command on stage is that of a veteran, he displays great poise, and comfort up there, he spits with so much confidence. I've seen a couple LG performances now, and this one was one of his best to date. Everything about his performance was spot on. He's definitely on his way to break into a different realm with the rap shit! Not much more to say about that. An original #NONO (Next Out Of New Orleans) member. Shots at John Deaux, HA! All Love. I'm waiting for Tunnel Vision to drop now, I know that he's stepping his artistry all the way up on that one.

Daniel Heartless (Rapper, Westside of New Orleans, #1 Ranked Rapper in The City)

If I had to throw out names of the best rappers in The City right now, i'd throw out Mid City AB, Neno Calvin, Negus, AK, LG, Xo Boogie, La'Rixkie, just to name a few. There's so many other great ones. But right now, i'd rank Daniel Heartless as the best. His showing at HOTY proves why. His following is bananas, created from the ground up. His flow is next level, lyrics are next level, metaphors are next level, and he makes next level tracks. He performed his new "Like A Man Remix" and that's honestly probably the hardest song on the streets right now. His energy on stage never changes, no matter if he's performing in front of 17, or 1,700. The mark of a true artist. One of the few local artist that can perform anywhere, and have multiple people in the audience actually reciting along with the song. Wade being someone else that comes to mind when you think of that particular quality. Like LG, before long it's gonna be hard to get in contact with Daniel Heartless to do shows because his schedule will be so crazy, but he def balled while he was here!

Chase N Cashe (Rapper/Producer, Mover, Creator)

There's nothing local about Chase N Cashe, so to have the humility to do a local showcase such as HOTY is truly commendable. The separation on stage couldn't be hidden though. Clearly Chase N Cashe's artistry runs hella deep. The way he commanded the crowd, and commanded attention was effortless. Above average bars, flow on 99, he proved why he's dug his way out of the local rap scene. Chase N Cashe is so important to the evolution of New Orleans' art scene, along with Edward Buckles, and B Mike, and Pell, and other artist such as those....and myself of course. Ha! Real spill though, when someones from your city makes music this good, and creates a movement so strong, its hard not to get behind them. I was seriously sleep on the homie before watching his HOTY performance 18 times, yeah I kept count. He had the most intriguing performance of the night, along with Daniel Heartless. It's rare that I become an instant fan of someone, i'll become an instant supporter before I become an instant fan, of Chase N Cashe I became an instant fan. YouTube search, soundcloud search, the whole 9, his performance that night was that good. And now today he just randomly drops an instrumental, who drops instrumentals? Crazy artistry.

Tired of me talking? Well I have a video shot by the homie Theron Cunningham of Cool Films, so you can see all of this shit I just said for yourselves, you're welcome!

Salute to Edward Buckles, House Of The Young, House Of Blues, every artist, every person that attended on a great night. Shifting the culture. NOLA Hip Hop. NOLA Art.
