Sliktron Editorial~"I've Seen This Before"

Is Nicki Minaj really THAT different? True, Nicki has been criticized for jocking many female MC's, namely Lil Kim for similar sex appeal. [How do you jock sexiness, idk....] But other than alllllll that, I found characteristics from another New York MC people forget about. Im talkin about Busta Rhymes!

Take away the boobs, butt, wigs, and you might understand where i'm coming from. Busta "has one of the most recognizable deliveries, a halting, ragga [for raggae]~inspired style with incredible complexity, inventiveness, and humor" noted by John Bush of All Music Guide. Busta began his career 1989 with a now easily recognized hair style, odd clothing selection, and sporadic energy as he delivered his rhymes. Sounds Familiar?

Ms. Minaj was also born in NY [Southside Jamaica Queens to be exact], notably spits in a Jamaican/dance-hall/reggae flow from time to time, and idk if you've noticed her unpredictable delivery of multiple personalities.

Not saying that she is JOCKING Bussa Bust, but the point i'm trying to make is there are few completely original ideas anymore. Just redone, redefined, re-innovated upgrades of artist that came before. Different display. Same Concept. New Generation.

[Sliktron Exclusive] dope. Clothing Interview

I been a fan of these guys since a buddy of mine put me on them around this time last year. I thought there were just a dope blog outta BR. Little did I know the make [dope.] clothes too. So I reached out to the good people who make it possible and here is the result!

Whats the purpose behind yo brand. How did the name come to mind?

-To provide a streetwear brand from our perspective. Using designs that are simple and take on a satirical approach. Before the brand was formally established, Courtney would do custom tees and they would often include the word "dope" somewhere. So, it just stuck. It made sense to use that as the company name.

Where are y'all located?

-We are proud to say that we're located in Baton Rouge, LA.

What other brands do your store carry if any?

-We are a brand first, so we only carry our label online. Recently, we did a collaboration with another brand and that shirt is featured on the site.

When did y'all begin the clothing line

-The clothing line was formally established in January of 2008

Who is all with your team?

-Courtney Howells - Head Designer
-Brandon Williams - Brand Manager
-Anthony Williams - Web Manager

-We all went to high school together and have been heavily influenced by the streetwear culture. Together, we want to create something representitve of the south, but also has national recognition. We all contribute on multiple levels outside of our titles. We're focused on producing the best product for our supporters.

What products u got out?

-We offer simple, graphic t-shirts, crewneck sweatshirts, & hoodies. In the near future, we are looking to add some accesories. for example, maybe some hats and beanies.

Any other projects in the works?

-Definitely! We have a couple more events to look forward to before the year is over as well as the Fall/Holiday '10 collection.

What artist u listen 2?

-It depends on which one of us you ask, but as long as it has "head nodablity", we'll most likely listen. Haha.

Fav Mixtapes out right now?

-Wale's "More About Nothing"

What do you want ppl to get\feel from your line?

-Classic designs that will be just as dope. tomorrow as they are today.

What are 5 essentials you can't leave you house without??

-Cell phone, Chapstick, watch, dope. button, dope. tee

What other brands to you rock [Other than your own]?

-Never Rotten, Icons & Whachumeen. Check them out!

Where can they find your products

-Our online shop: shop.thedopegame.com
Retailers: Rukus Boardsports (Baton Rouge), Private Stock (Baton Rouge), Politics (Lafayette), Politics (New Orleans), Traffic (New Orleans)

Shout outs?

-To any and everyone that supports what we're doing: Thank You.
