Sliktron Editorial~"I've Seen This Before"

Is Nicki Minaj really THAT different? True, Nicki has been criticized for jocking many female MC's, namely Lil Kim for similar sex appeal. [How do you jock sexiness, idk....] But other than alllllll that, I found characteristics from another New York MC people forget about. Im talkin about Busta Rhymes!

Take away the boobs, butt, wigs, and you might understand where i'm coming from. Busta "has one of the most recognizable deliveries, a halting, ragga [for raggae]~inspired style with incredible complexity, inventiveness, and humor" noted by John Bush of All Music Guide. Busta began his career 1989 with a now easily recognized hair style, odd clothing selection, and sporadic energy as he delivered his rhymes. Sounds Familiar?

Ms. Minaj was also born in NY [Southside Jamaica Queens to be exact], notably spits in a Jamaican/dance-hall/reggae flow from time to time, and idk if you've noticed her unpredictable delivery of multiple personalities.

Not saying that she is JOCKING Bussa Bust, but the point i'm trying to make is there are few completely original ideas anymore. Just redone, redefined, re-innovated upgrades of artist that came before. Different display. Same Concept. New Generation.

  1. Nice Editorial bro. I just think that's how the world is. It's hard to be completely original now. Every generation is gonna pull inspiration from people that came before them. Especially in hip-hop where almost every big hit is sampled from a past song.
